All dogs and cats three months of age and
over in Brimbank must be microchipped,
desexed, and registered with Council.
Pet registration is required by law.
You can register your pet online at
brimbank.vic.gov.au
or at a Council Customer Service Centre.
Registering your pet for the first time?
What you’ll need:
• A copy of your pet’s desexing certificate
• Your pet’s microchip number
Renewing your pet’s registration
Pet registration must be renewed by 10 April each year.
Council will send out a notice to let you know when the
renewal fee is due.
If you’re an eligible pension card holder, you’ll receive
50 per cent off pet registration fees.
If your details change, let Council know (and don’t forget
to update your pet’s microchip details while you’re at it).
Need a lifelong registration tag?
A lifelong registration tag – along with an up-to-date
microchip - is the best way to make sure your pet is
identifiable at all times.
Order a new – or replace a lost – lifelong tag at
brimbank.vic.gov.au

Did you know all dogs in Brimbank aged three months
and over must be desexed, unless exempt?
Desexing may benefit your dog by:
• reducing the risk of a range of health issues,
including cancer
• reducing aggression
Desexing procedures can be performed safely as early
as eight weeks of age.
Desexing your pet early will ensure you will not be
caught by surprise with an unwanted litter.
1
Speak to your local vet about desexing your dog today.
Your dog may be exempt
from desexing if:
• You have written advice from your vet that
the animal’s health will be negatively impacted
if desexed.
1 www.dogshome.com/if-you-love-them-desex-them
• You’re a current member of an applicable
organisation and the animal is registered with that
organisation (current membership and pedigree
certificates must be provided).
• You have a domestic animal business
under which dogs or cats are used for
breeding purposes.
• It is a dangerous dog, kept as a guard dog for a
non-residential premises.
• It is a dangerous dog that has undergone protection
training in accordance with any relevant Code of
Practice made under section 59 of the Domestic
Animals Act.
• It is a working or farm dog.
Desexing is
compulsory

Housing your dog correctly is an important part
of being a responsible pet owner.
Dogs “wandering at large” cause a nuisance, are
often distressed, and may attack or harass people
or other animals.
Sometimes, they can also cause road accidents.
Make sure your dog is microchipped and wearing its
registration tag at all times, so that if they do escape
there is a better chance they will make it back home.
Most importantly, make sure your property is secured,
so your dog can’t escape.
