Did you know all cats in Brimbank aged three months
and over must be desexed, unless exempt?
Desexing your cat can reduce the risk of a range of
health issues, including cancer.
You’ll also be helping to:
• Reduce the number of impounded cats
• Prevent unwanted cat pregnancies, and
• Better manage strays
Desexing procedures can be performed safely as
early as eight weeks of age.
Speak to your local vet about desexing your cat today.
Your cat may be exempt
from desexing if:
• You have written advice from your vet that
the animal’s health will be negatively impacted
if desexed.
• You are a current member of an applicable
organisation and the animal is registered with
that organisation (current membership and
pedigree certificates must be provided).
• You conduct a domestic animal business under
which dogs or cats are used for breeding purposes.

Stray and lost
animals
It’s illegal to keep stray animals. It’s very likely
they belong to someone. Some animals may
depend on medication or veterinary care for their
health and wellbeing.
Report stray cats - and other animals
- to Brimbank City Council on
9249 4000.
Been feeding a stray cat?
Feeding stray cats contributes to the overpopulation
of unowned cats across Brimbank and Victoria.
Feeding stray cats feeds the regeneration of
unowned cat colonies.
The result is more kittens born into starvation and
disease, and may lead to the spread of disease to
other animals.
Lost your pet?
Report your lost pet by calling Brimbank City Council
on
9249 4000
and tell us:
• Your name, address, telephone, and your pet’s
registration number
• Microchip details
• Description of your pet, including any
distinguishing marks
• Details of collar and registration tags
• Your pet’s name and age
Did you know…
the more time a pet cat spends
safe at home, the less risk of injury or death from road
accidents, fighting, and disease. A pet cat kept safe at
home can live up to four times longer than a cat left
to roam (Australian Veterinary Association 2016).
