Improving safety
in town centres

image
Brimbank City Council and Victoria Police are working
together to improve safety in our town centres.
This brochure provides information on how local
businesses can help create a safer, cleaner environment
and the best people to speak to for help.
Public Transport
Victoria Police and Protective Services Officers
patrol the public transport network to keep you safe.
Protective Services Officers patrol 217 metropolitan
and regional railway stations between 6 p.m. and the
last train every day. This includes the following railway
stations in Brimbank; Albion, Ginifer, Keilor Plains, St
Albans, Sunshine and Watergardens. PSOs also patrol
St Albans, Sunshine and Watergardens railway stations
overnight on Friday and Saturday nights.

Personal Safety
Everyone has a responsibility to make good decisions
about personal safety.
Key tips to remember:
• Avoid carrying large amounts of cash
• At night, stay in well-lit areas, preferably where
there are people
• If you feel uncomfortable or threatened, go to a
busy or bright place like a shop
• Be aware of your surroundings and the people
around you
You can report a crime and suspicious activities
anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers on

333 000
(toll free). Reports to Crime Stoppers can
include hoon driving, drug use and public drinking.
Contact Emergency
Triple Zero (000)
if you need
to report an incident that needs an immediate police
response.
When reporting incidents gather as many details as
possible including the time and date of the incident,

attractive town centres and public spaces. This is
because graffiti contributes to negative perceptions
about safety and may cause permanent damage if not
removed quickly.

report any details you have about the vandals to Crime
Stoppers on

needed contact Council on

If you see graffiti in public areas, please contact Council
to request its removal.
Please note: Council will only remove graffiti from
private property when it is offensive and adjacent to
public pedestrian areas.
Dumped Rubbish
Dumped rubbish also contributes to negative
perceptions of safety and needs to be removed quickly.
Please contact Council on
