Alfrieda Street
Master Plan
Following consultation with businesses in February, the Master Plan has been
modified to address the following feedback:
• Minimise carparking losses and ensure the convenient location of loading zones
and short-term parking
• Provide for more greenery and adequate maintenance
• Provide improvements to safety in the Collins St car parks including electronic
parking signs to advise of parking availability in these car parks.
Council endorsed the Alfrieda Street Public Realm Master Plan (Master Plan) at the April
Council Meeting. The Master Plan is for the length of Alfrieda Street from Main Road East
to Taylors Road. The Civic Walk section relates to the Town Centre. The Master Plan is a
10-year vision underpinned by design principles focused on People, Place and Planet.

St Albans Making
Headlines
The front cover of The Saturday Age newspaper featured
a story on St Albans on 2 March 2024. The story included
interviews with four businesses in the Town Centre,
including St Albans Market, O’Brien Real Estate and Hanna
Coffee as well as the President of the St Albans Business
Association. Overall it was a very positive story that focused
on the rich tapestry of cultures that make up St Albans, and
the waves of migration that are so entrenched in its history.
Justin McManus,
The Age
Town Centre
Activations
Council continues to deliver its ‘Enjoy Local’ program
in the St Albans Town Centre, which helps create a
positive and engaging environment for visitors to
the Centre.
The program has delivered live music and youth
drop-in sessions at Errington Reserve, as well as
an Easter Hunt and school holiday activities.
The Enjoy Local program continues until June 2024,
with programming including live music, roving
entertainment and Mother’s Day activities.
Westside Wanders
Five St Albans businesses participated in the Westside
Wanders St Albans Tour on 16 March, 2024 including Big
Sam’ Market, Slavonija Butcher, Dil Dosti, Pho Ngon, Che
Desserts and Hanna Coffee. Food tour guests were taken
on a journey through the market then treated to Croatian,
Bulkan, Indian and Asian cuisines. Feedback from guests
was very positive with everyone overwhelmed by the
sheer authenticity and hospitality of all our businesses.
Congratulations to all involved as you collectively help
raise the profile of St Albans.
Westside Wanders is presented by Eat Drink Westside and
is part of the 2024 Melbourne Food and Wine Festival. Eat
Drink Westside is a partnership involving five councils in
Melbourne’s west and is supported by Western Melbourne
Tourism.
The event is a great opportunity to promote St Albans
to a wider metropolitan and regional audience through
Melbourne Food and Wine promotions, which reach
approximately 500,000 people. The food tour also provides
an opportunity to showcase the Centre to people who
come from all over Victoria and interstate.
Laneway Project
The laneway between Princess Street and Main Road
East, behind the Woolworths store is about to undergo
a transformation with the application of artwork to the
road surface. The works will be the first of a series of
improvements that aim to create a more attractive space
for pedestrians to move through the Centre.
The works are planned for late April with access to
the laneway restricted overnight from 6pm until 6am
for three consecutive nights. All businesses directly
impacted by the works have been notified.
The next project planned for this year involves the
installation of feature lighting.
Should you require any more information about
this project please contact the Cinzia Crea St Albans
Place Manager 0417 139 121.

Pest Alert
With many businesses noticing an
increase in rodents, mice and rats in
particular, here's a few tips to reduce
infestation:
• Keep the inside and outside of
the premises and food transport
vehicles clean
• Regularly check premises and
equipment (under and behind
appliances and containers, under
benches and sinks, in cupboards and
wall cavities) for signs of pest activity
(e.g. droppings, scratch marks and
feathers) and treating affected areas
as necessary
• Storing food and other items off the
floor
• Storing food and waste in sealed
containers
• Ensuring rubbish is regularly removed
• Using pest repellents or lure traps
• Implementing a suitable pest control
plan, which may involve a licensed
pest controller.
