WINTER EDITION 2024
We Are Brimbank Awards
The 'We Are Brimbank Awards' recognises the incredible contributions, hard work and
determination of individuals, organisations and community groups making a positive
difference in our community.
Congratulations to Ross Morfea, secretary of the St Albans Business Association, the
winner of the Arts, Culture or Tourism category. This award category recognises and
celebrates the fantastic projects, events, groups or businesses that showcase and
develop our community’s rich cultural fabric.
Ross has managed the St Albans Lunar New Year festival on a voluntary basis for the
last fifteen years. The St Albans Lunar New Year festival has been running for 26 years
and has grown into one of Australia’s larger lunar new year festivals and this is largely
due to Ross Morfea’s management of the festival.
Congratulations to Ross for your outstanding leadership, dedication, and hard work. Your
dedication has contributed to a stronger, healthier, happier and more connected Brimbank.

Laneway Artwork
The laneway between Princess
Street and Main Road East, behind the
Woolworths store, has undergone a
transformation in early May with the
application of artwork to the road
surface. The artwork has introduced a
burst of colour into the laneway that is
hoped will encourage more activation.
Thank you to all the businesses who
were patient and very co-operative
during the installation of the artwork.
The artwork is the first of a series
of enhancements proposed
for the laneway, with the next
project involving the installation of
feature lighting on the rear of the
Woolworths store and more artwork
later this year.

Tree Socks
Some of the eucalypt trees along
St Albans Road have been adorned
with crocheted tree socks. The tree
socks introduce colour to St Albans
Square, which is located at a
prominent intersection in the Town
Centre and directly opposite the
train station.
The tree socks were crocheted by
a local resident wanting to share
her passion with the community.
These types of initiatives collectively
enhance public spaces and boost
community pride for workers and
visitors to the Town Centre.

Town Centre Activations
With winter well and truly here, the ‘Enjoy Local’ program
in St Albans draws to a close. The program has helped create
a positive and engaging environment for workers and
visitors to the Centre.
The program has delivered a range of activities including
Bonsai meet ups, roaming entertainment, live music, and
youth drop-in sessions throughout autumn.
The Enjoy Local program will kick off again in
September once the warmer weather resumes. The
program is expected to include more live music and
roving entertainment.
Pest Control
We've heard that many businesses are still experiencing
issues with rodents, particularly mice and rats. Here are a
few tips to help reduce the infestation:
• Keep the inside and outside of the premises and food
transport vehicles clean
• Regularly check premises and equipment (under and
behind appliances and containers, under benches and
sinks, in cupboards and wall cavities) for signs of pest
activity (e.g. droppings, scratch marks and feathers)
and treating affected areas as necessary
• Storing food and other items off the floor
• Storing food and waste in sealed containers
• Ensuring rubbish is regularly removed
• Using pest repellents or lure traps
• Implementing a suitable pest control plan,
which may involve a licensed pest controller.
