Welcome to this Ceremony
Brimbank City Council respectfully acknowledges and recognises the Wurundjeri and
Bunurong Peoples as the Traditional Custodians of this land and pays respect to their
Elders, past, present and future.
The purpose of this ceremony is for Councillors-Elect to be sworn in.
The Council
At this ceremony, Councillors-Elect will be sworn in as Councillors for the City of
Brimbank. Once sworn in, the 11 Councillors will form the Council and have the authority
to make decisions in the best interests of the City of Brimbank.

1 Opening (Including Acknowledgement Of Country)
The Chief Executive Officer will facilitate the swearing in of Councillors.
On behalf of Brimbank City Council, I respectfully acknowledge and recognise the
Wurundjeri and Bunurong Peoples as the Traditional Custodians of this land and pay
respect to their Elders, past, present and future.
2 Apologies
3 Oath Or Affirmation Of Office
In accordance with section 30 of the
Local Government Act 2020
(
the Act
) each
Councillor-Elect must take, and sign, the following oath or affirmation before the Chief
Executive Officer:
“I will undertake the duties of the office of Councillor in the best interests of the
municipal community. I will abide by the Model Councillor Code of Conduct and uphold
the standards of conduct set out in the Model Councillor Code of Conduct. I will faithfully
and impartially carry out and exercise the functions, powers, authorities and discretions
vested in me under the Local Government Act 2020 and any other Act to the best of my
skill and judgment.”
The taking of the oath or affirmation will be recorded in the Minutes of the Ceremony.
4 Acknowledgment Of Office
Each sworn Councillor will be allowed the opportunity to address the Chamber for one
minute on the occasion of their appointment to the role of Councillor for the City of
Brimbank.
